Situated on the banks of the river Nore, Peace in Christ has been the Diocesan House of Prayer for over 40 years. This unique House of Prayer was founded in 1967 by Bishop Peter Birch in co-operation with Congregation of the Daughters of Mary and Joseph.

While being only a mile from the centre of the bustling medieval city of Kilkenny, Peace in Christ offers a haven of tranquillity and hospitality.

Since its foundation, the Daughters of Mary and Joseph have been responsible for the running of the Retreat House. Priests of the Diocese of Ossory are actively involved in the ministry of Peace in Christ. Promoters take responsibility for promoting the work of Peace in Christ in their parishes.

The Retreat House provides opportunities for prayer and reflection in a creative and peaceful atmosphere. People from the parishes of the Diocese are invited to participate in reflective evenings directed by the Retreat House Team in collaboration with the Diocesan priests. The Confirmation Team conducts a one day retreat for young people preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The Programme also includes:

• Reflective Days and Evenings in preparation for Christmas and Easter
• Day and Weekend Retreats
• Retreats for Specific Groups
• Meditation Group Meetings

  • Uniquely designed with stained glass windows depicting the shattered cross, symbolising the Resurrection.
  • Granite Altar and Ambo
  • Tabernacle designed by Richard King
• Conference Room (seating 60 people)
• Small Group Rooms
• Lounge Area
• Dining Room (seating 60 people)
• Residential: 25 single bedrooms
• All facilities are at ground level
• Peace in Christ is available for use by groups for conferences/meetings by arrangement.
